Fasturtle® hires two new team members!

We are excited to announce the expansion of our Fasturtle® team! After several, should we say “terrible,” interviews for our design internship, we came across one diamond in the rough, Brian Skeet. We have elected to take him under our shell to teach him everything we can about design and the internet marketing business while allowing him the opportunity to fine tune his creativity and programming skills.

In addition to our intern, we have hired a sales supper star, Christine Ostrander. She is sure to rise to the top with her go getter attitude and “won’t take no for an answer” ways. Eric Olsen has personally elected to move forward with extensive training giving her the intricate details of Fasturtle®, ensuring she provides our clients with the legendary customer service we are aiming for.

One final note for those of you out there drudging through the interview process, to avoid a “terrible” interview please, please, please go prepared, know a little about the company, and as if should even need to be said, Dress to Impress, first impressions count for 80% of the process.

Welcome aboard Christine and Brian, we wish you success and good fortune.

10 Social Media Tips and Tactics to engage your audience

1. Twitter followers earned are much sweeter than Twitter followers bought. Anyone can go out and buy a click, but engaging in an actual conversation is much more fulfilling and leads to a loyal following. Buying your following could lead to the dreaded un-follow when they find out your content and tweets are not up to their standards.

2. Write regularly and consistently, people return to your site because your information is fresh, new and exciting.

3. If your readers took the time to read the article you spent so much time writing, they may want to share it as well, make it easy, and always include the Tweet and Facebook Like buttons on your work.

4. Write catchy headlines that grab people’s attention quickly. Make sure they are keyword rich for search engines.

5. Provide subscription buttons such as: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google + so readers can easily follow you and your work.

6. When tweeting your 140 character message, include # tags to deliver it to the group of individuals you want to see the information. Example #leadership or #seo

7. As your following continues to grow on the different social media outlets, be sure to highlight this feat on your company blog, or monthly newsletter. People like being recognized for their efforts and if you show your appreciation to them, you are more likely to continue growing.

8. Run polls using the Facebook Question Feature. Engage and involve your audience for optimal feedback

9. Create a contest or competition on Facebook or Twitter for your followers.

10. Respond, Respond, Respond!! Always make an effort to reply to mentions on twitter or comments posted by fans on Facebook. Show you are engaged and appreciate that they are taking the time read what you have to say.

NEW WEBSITE POISED TO CHANGE THE FACE OF BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

PHOENIX, Ariz. – April 26, 2011 – Bringing community together is the idea behind one company’s new website, www.JustGoPhoenix.com. Though it seems our world cannot possibly get any closer than it already is; the online community has yet to tap into the true heartbeat of the business community in a way that speaks directly from an industry standpoint. In the age of self-promotion, blogs and press releases are the most affordable and easiest way to get substantial information to the masses. According to Eric Olsen, CEO of Fasturtle®, there are two problems with this. “One, press releases are at the mercy of editors. Two, blogs are only available if you know what site they are connected to or if you are looking for a specific topic.”

In response to this, the Arizona based company, Fasturtle®, created a website to eliminate these problems. Specific to B2B or B2C, JustGoPhoenix.com is the city’s way of finding out what is going on in targeted industries. “I am excited to be a part of something which exemplifies freedom of speech that will create a way for companies to publish information unedited by outside parties,” says Olsen. The site is also designed as a resource for people that might be relocating who wouldn’t otherwise know the industry trends of a new city. By referring to the site, they can pool information about a specific industry instead of having to search for each individual company.

In addition, job listings are featured to counteract the struggle and cost of finding qualified employees. In his own search for valuable employees, Olsen found that his choices for affordable listings were slim and wanted to provide an alternative to the big employment sites and niche job listing sites.

Currently, Phoenix is the test market for the site, with plans to expand to the top 25 cities in the United States. Each city will have a minimum of 30 blogs ranging in topics anywhere from Automotive to Fashion to Medicine. With enthusiasm from the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce and positive feedback from companies that are currently posting, Fasturtle® plans to promote JustGoPhoenix.com as a rich new source of business information within our communities with the theme of “Your City, Your Business, Your Voice.”

Using Twitter to Make Friends

We’ve been using Twitter an awful lot at work. If you don’t know what Twitter is, as your liaison de l’informatique we are happy to inform you that Twitter (http://twitter.com) is a social network made up of short messages. While one message may seem mundane, factor in millions of users all over the world and cool info-graphics like this turn up about the most common words used during the Super Bowl.

I enjoy sharing things @jayrobinson, and we have a company Twitter account @fasturtle. We started talking about our favorite people to follow and we thought we’d share them with you.

Jay
@jasonfried – because he started 37signals and he’s probably a genius
@mike9r – smart designer and budding Cocoa enthusiast, he provides interesting links and tips
@cabel, @stevenf – the founders of Panic Inc. provide some good insight into the Apple developer community

Amanda
@creattica – consistent quality design links
@aisleone, @konigi – love their tweets and blogs for design / web tips

Paul
@snookca – keeps me up on all the latest developer news, Mac software, and productivity ideas
@cameronmoll – provides some design-related links and humor

What it boils down to is that we are folks who love the Web, and we want to meet other people who are just as passionate as us and love to share things about the Web. So follow us if you’d like, post your opinion to our new poll in the sidebar, or sound off in the comments!
