Bloggers with a Purpose

November 18, 2014

Wondering just how to blog in a way that makes you money? Plenty of people love blogging but simply do it for fun. Yet others find ways of creating a blog that is not only fun but gives them a secondary income. Then there’s the jackpot of blogging so successfully that that’s all you have to do to bring in a sufficiently high income to quit your regular job. Is that even possible? Yes, it is, but it takes hard work, dedication, and a few strategic moves on your part.

Advertising Pennies, Nickels, and Dimes

Advertising on your blog isn’t going to bring in huge money, but even people who are creating a blog casually have easy options for using ads on their site. A bit of income may start to trickle in. This will also help you to understand who comes to your site, what kinds of ads they click on, and what may work in the future.

Become an Affiliate

Being an affiliate means selling someone else’s products through your site. It’s similar to advertising, but makes you a bigger commission on each sale. Amazon’s affiliate system is a good place to start. If you’re blogging about products, you can set up an affiliate account with Amazon so that when your blog is sending people to buy the products from Amazon, you get a commission.

Plan a Great Blog

How to blog effectively is no easy thing. If you’re creating a blog, you probably have a reason why and an idea of what you’ll be blogging about. No matter what you blog about, you need to give people something worth reading. Content is not just a buzzword, it’s the reason anyone goes to any website, anywhere online. You can learn everything about SEO, but if the stuff you put on your site is not quality content, few, if any, are going to keep coming back. Loyalty should be a goal, and you’ve got to offer people something to be loyal to.

Make an Editorial Calendar

Plan your blogging ahead of time so you’re always offering something new and valuable to your readers. An editorial calendar will allow you to mix up your media, sometimes offering long, in-depth posts and other times posting a great infographic or video. Part of knowing how to blog is knowing when and what to blog about.
