November 25, 2014

Now that you’re thinking seriously about why anyone wants to learn SEO tips and take SEO advice from blogging professionals online, let’s get into the nitty gritty. Are there certain things you must learn about SEO in order to get noticed by search engines? And how can you make sure you’re following SEO tips correctly?

Know Your Terms

The place to start is with the various SEO terms that are often mentioned as if they’re the most natural thing in the world. Keywords are pretty well understood at this point, but the way we use them keeps changing due to search engines’ constantly changing requirements. Below are a few more SEO terms that you should understand.

Black Hat SEO – SEO advice or SEO tips that will get you into trouble with search engines.

Google Panda – An update to Google’s algorithm that forced bloggers to learn SEO differently and focus on better content rather than more content.

Inbound Link – This is a valuable SEO tip to gain notoriety for your site. Essentially it is a link to your blog on a popular website that is related to your site.

Keyword Density – The frequency of a keyword’s occurrence on a page, usually a percentage (SEO tip: 1-3% is enough).

Link Building – The process of getting quality inbound links to your site. (As you learn SEO, you’ll learn that this is harder than it first seems).

Long Tail Keywords – A search phrase (rather than a single word) that has less competition.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) – A way to advertise using search engines that only charges you each time someone clicks on your ad.

White Hat SEO – SEO advice and SEO tips that are approved by search engines.

This list is just to get you started. Most importantly, you should understand that this is not a complete list nor are the descriptions enough for you to feel like you have learned the SEO strategies. The best SEO uses most of these terms, but you’ve also got to make sure you learn SEO uses correctly. Otherwise you’ll get your site dropped from the search engine rankings in a hurry. If you come across an SEO tip or term that you don’t understand, take the time to learn more about it so you can use it effectively.
